SISSS00132 Swim Teacher Skill Set

Overview

Students will start the course with online learning via our eLearning portal. There is pre-reading, online learning modules and knowledge-based assessments prior to joining a classroom session. This will ensure students have the required knowledge and understanding before progressing to the practical application and assessment in the classroom.

Course duration and delivery:
Online training and assessment (approximately 10 hours) plus 2 days (16 hours) face-to-face training and assessment.

Pre-requisites:
When applying for a Swim Teacher Licence, the applicant must hold a current HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate. This certificate must be renewed annually to maintain a current licence.

A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) is  required to undertake your practical training hours at an aquatic facility, as well as for your Swim Teacher License application. Please note you require an Employee Check (not volunteer) for your Swim Teacher licence. Please visit the SA Government website here for more information.

A reasonable level of English is required to be able to complete this course successfully.

You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold a valid visa which allows you to enrol in our VET training courses.

Certification: On successfully completing the SISSS00132 Swimming and Water Safety Teacher skill set, a Statement of Attainment will be issued, which includes the following units of competence:

  • SISCAQU020 Perform water rescues

  • SISCAQU023 Plan swimming lessons

  • SISCAQU024 Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills

  • SISCAQU025 Teach water safety and survival skills

  • SISCAQU026 Teach swimming strokes

At time of enrolment, participants are required to provide their valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) for authentication purposes by Royal Life Saving SA. A USI serves as a unique reference number mandated by the Commonwealth statutory office under the Student Identifiers Act 2014, and it can be obtained from the USI Registrar at www.usi.gov.au.
