The Bronze Medallion course enhances your personal survival skills while providing you with the knowledge and skills to develop the level of judgement, technique and physical ability required to safely carry out water rescues.
This 1-day course requires a proficient level of swimming skill and fitness for successful completion. Assessment items include a 400m continuous swim within 13 minutes, using 100m each of freestyle, breaststroke, sidestroke and survival backstroke. A 50m swim and 50m contact tow of an unconscious patient within 3 min 15 sec needs to be achieved. A full list of practical assessment can be viewed below.
Assessment Items

1. Manage an unconscious, breathing casualty
2. Perform 2 minutes of CPR on an unconscious, non-breathing adult casualty on the floor
3. Perform 2 minutes of CPR on an unconscious, non-breathing infant casualty on a firm surface

2. Perform a throw rescue
3. Perform 10-metre swim and then a 10-metre non-contact tow rescue before extracting the patient from the water without assistance (non swimmer)
4. Perform a 10-metre swim and then a 10-metre contact tow rescue before extracting the patient from the water with assistance from one other person (unconscious person)

PLEASE BRING LONG SLEEVED T-SHIRT AND LONG PANTS on the day as you will be required to swim in clothes for some of the assessment tasks.

You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold a valid visa which allows you to enrol in our VET training courses.
Please be aware that Royal Life Saving Society Australia South Australia Branch Inc (RTO 0996) is not registered as a CRICOS provider. We can only accept international students who hold Student Visa (Subclass 500), if the 8201 condition (maximum 3 months study) is listed on the visa document.
At time of enrolment, participants are required to provide their valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) for authentication purposes by Royal Life Saving SA. A USI serves as a unique reference number mandated by the Commonwealth statutory office under the Student Identifiers Act 2014, and it can be obtained from the USI Registrar at www.usi.gov.au
